Romania's COVID-19 daily case count rises by 16,610; tests performed in last 24 hours: over 78,000

As many as 16,610 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded in the last 24 hours in Romania, down 150 from Tuesday, following over 78,000 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 1,073 were in re-infected patients who tested positive more than 180 days after the first time they went through the disease.

In the last 24 hours, 26,527 RT-PCR tests were performed (14,652 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 11,875 on request) and 51,595 rapid antigen tests.

As of Wednesday, 1,944,916 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania of which 23,389 are from re-infected patients, tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection. Of these, 1,793,668 were declared cured.

To date, 11,480,175 RT-PCR tests and 6,722,861 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 1,548 people were reconfirmed positive.
