Romanian tennis players Jaqueline Cristian, Sorana Cirstea and Gabriela Ruse on Saturday advanced to the round of 32 at the Adelaide International WTA 500 tournament in Australia, prize money USD 1,206,446 as they won their qualifiers.
Jaqueline Cristian,27, ranked 38th, beat Australian Sarah Mildren, 17, ranked 1,080th, 7-6 (7/4) 6-2, in an hour and 39 minutes, agerpers reports.
Cirstea, 35, ranked 41st, beat Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri, 33, 6-3 6-3, after one hour and 13 minutes of play. Initially, Cirstea was scheduled to face Czech player Karolina Pliskova, 33, but the Czech withdrew due to an injury.
Ruse, 28, ranked 85th, prevailed over British Katie Swan, 26, ranked 270th, 6-7 (5/7) 6-2 6-3, in two hours and 15 minutes, despite six double faults.
Each Romanian won USD 8,501 and 13 WTA singles points.
In the final round of qualifying, Cristian, the main favourite of the preliminary draw, will meet Austria's Anastasia Potapova, 24, ranked 55th, who won both of their previous two meets, in 2017, in the qualifiers at Wesley Chapel (USA), 6-4 4-6 6-2, and in 2023, in the second round in Madrid Open, 7-5 3-6 6-2.
Cirstea will play Uzbek Kamila Rakhimova, 24, ranked 91st, whom she defeated in 2022, in the first round in Istanbul, 6-4 6-1.
Gabriela Ruse will play Czech Katerina Siniakova,29, ranked 47th, who won both their direct meets, in the 2020 semifinals of the ITF W100+H Dubai, 6-3 6-7 (2/7) 6-4, and last year, in the first round of the Prague Open, 7-5 6-2.
