Romanian-Taiwanese duo Jaqueline Cristian/Su-Wei Hsieh on Monday progressed to the quarterfinals of the women's doubles event at the Korea Open WTA 500 tennis tournament, prize money USD 1,064,510, after defeating Ellen Perez (Australia)/Fanny Stollar (Hungary) 7-6 (7/2) 6-4, informs Agerpres.
Cristian and Hsieh prevailed over the top seed in an hour and a half.
In the first set, Perez and Sollar led 5-3, and the Romanian-Taiwanese pair saved three set points at 6-5 for their opponents, then won in a tiebreak. In the second act, Cristian and her partner managed the only break of the set, at 4-4.
For their performance so far, Cristian and Hsieh won USD 9,840 and 108 WTA doubles points.in the quarterfinals, they will face the winners of the Czech Barbora Krejcikova/Katerina Siniakova versus Ana Blinkova (Russia)/Makoto Ninomiya (Japan) fixture.
In singles, Cristian will have a difficult match in the first set, against the British of Romanian origin Emma Raducanu, the eighth seed, while compatriot Sorana Cirstea will face Russian Anastasia Zakharova.
