Romania's industrial production, down almost 3pct five months into 2025

Romania's industrial production in the first five months of 2025 decreased, both unadjusted (-2.8%) and adjusted for seasonality (-1.3%), year-on-year, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to official statistics, between January 1 and May 31, 2025, unadjusted, decreases were recorded in manufacturing (-3.4%) and mining and quarrying (-1.4%). On the other hand, the production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning increased by 0.5%, year-on-year, agerpres reports.

Adjusted for seasonality, decreases were recorded in manufacturing (-1.7%) and mining and quarrying (-1.3%). On the other hand, the production and supply of electricity gas, steam and air conditioning increased by 1.6%.

INS data show that, at the level of May, industrial production increased, compared to the previous month, unadjusted (+7.8%), but decreased by 0.6% when seasonally adjusted.

As against May 2024, industrial production was up 7.1%, unadjusted, and 3.7%, seasonally adjusted supported by the three industrial sectors: manufacturing and production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+7.5%, each) and mining and quarrying (+1.1%).

Seasonally adjusted, increases were reported in the production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+7%), manufacturing (+4.1%) and mining and quarrying (+0.5%).
