Romanian-Australian duo Monica Niculescu/Storm Hunter on Saturday advanced to the women's doubles final at the Chennai Open WTA 250 tennis tournament in Chennai, India, prize money USD 275,094 dollars, after defeating Japanese Mai Hontama/Akiko Omae 7-6 (7/3) 6-4.
Top seed Niculescu/Hunter prevailed in an hour and 37 minutes.
In the first set, Niculescu and her partner led 3-0, but were equalised, winning the tiebreak.
For their performance so far, Niculescu and Hunter won USD 7,430 and 163 WTA doubles points.
In the final, the Romanian-Australian duo will meet the winners of the fixture between Indians Riya Bhatia/Rutuja Bhosale and Indonesians Aldila Sutjiadi/Janice Tjen, second seed.
