The President of the Romanian Wrestling Federation (FRL), Razvan Pircalabu, told AGERPRES on Friday that Romania's objective at the World Championships in Zagreb (September 13-21) is to win a medal.

"It is an important competition, practically a new beginning of the Olympic cycle, now the teams are being re-established because some athletes have withdrawn. This edition will be one with a record number of participating athletes, so we expect a very strong competition. Wrestling at the world level has evolved a lot. Our objective at this edition of the World Championships is to win a medal", said Pircalabu.

"Unfortunately, in Greco-Roman we only participate with two athletes, and in freestyle wrestling with three. As always in recent years, the girls are doing the heavy lifting. In fact, in the women's category we also have real chances to climb the podium. Kateryna Zelenykh and Andreea Ana are the two girls we rely on for the Olympic Games, so we are also thinking about them for these World Championships", he added.

The FRL president hopes that Alin Alexuc, retired from activity and currently coach of the Romanian Greco-Roman wrestling team, will raise the level of the athletes in this style. "Alin Alexuc is the new Greco-Roman coach. He is at the first major competition in his new position. We hope that he and his colleagues will raise the level of our team in this style", specified Răzvan Pîrcălabu.

Romania will participate in the World Wrestling Championships scheduled for September 13-21 in Zagreb, Croatia, with a team of 10 athletes:

Women's wrestling: Beatrice Ferent (53 kg category), Andreea Ana (55 kg), Roxana Capezan (62 kg), Kateryna Zelenykh (68 kg), Alexandra Anghel (72 kg);

Freestyle wrestling: Daniel Sandu (65 kg), Iakub Shikhdzhamalov (79 kg), Omar Sarem (125 kg);

Greco-Roman wrestling: Denis Mihai (55 kg) and Patrik Iulian Gordan (87 kg).
