Rompetrol Rafinare is close to finalizing the implementation of the first phase of Advanced Process Control (APC), a digital solution with an estimated cost of about 4 million US dollars, which will allow for the improvement of the production activities of the Petromidia Navodari refinery, according to a company report sent on Tuesday to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

"It is an important step in the processing of crude oil in Romania, the alignment with international trends in the field, implementation and adoption of digital solutions, artificial intelligence for increasing profitability, more rigorous control of the products obtained, but also the stability in operation installations and technological flows All these directions are aimed at the fourth industrial revolution - Industry 4.0 and Rompetrol continues to be a local pioneer by initiating a large digital transformation program of Petromidia Navodari refinery," said the general manager of Rompetrol Rafinare, Yedil Utekov.

With an estimated cost of about 4 million US dollars, APC is a complex software for the predictive control of installations and operational flows, and seeks to identify optimal points for increasing capabilities, improving product quality, reducing power consumption, and stricter control of key-parameters.

The APC implementation program at the refinery level has been divided into four major stages, depending on the complexity of the technological flows, its deadline for completion being the end of 2020.

The first phase was initiated in May 2018 and targeted the coking, petrol hydrofining and gas fractioning installations, and the performance tests will be completed by the end of this month. Currently, the impact generated for the three installations is positive, of about 1 million US dollars per year.

The company initiated the second stage of the APC implementation program in the catalytic cracking installation and hydrogen plant in January, and the completion deadline was scheduled for the end of this year. Also the third stage - catalic reformation and oil hydrofining - will be initiated this year and by the end of 2020 all phases will be operational, including the fourth stage - mild hydrocracking and diesel hydrofining.
