Ruse-Kostyuk duo advances to US Open women's doubles third round
Romanian-Ukrainian duo Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostyuk on Wednesday advanced to the second round of the women's doubles event of the US Open tennis tournament after defeating the Romanian-Ukrainian double Irina Begu/Anhelina Kalinina 7-5 6-2, told Agerpres.
It took N.14 Ruse-Kostyuk an hour and 25 minutes to get the victory.
Ruse-Kostyuk were clearly better in scoring winners, 32-12.
In the second round, Ruse and Kosyiuk will face the winners between Irina Khromacheva (Russia)/Daria Saville (Australia) v Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig (US).
In another match on Wednesday at Flushing Meadows, Romanian-Chilean duo Monica Niculescu/Alexa Guarachi lost to Americans Sophie Chang/Alycia Parks, 6-3 6-4, in the first round, after one hour and 22 minutes.
Niculescu and Guarachi won USD 22,000 and 10 WTA doubles points, while Ruse and Kostyuk won USD 36,800 and 70 WTA doubles points.
