Romanian tennis player Elena Ruxandra Bertea reached the round of sixteen of the ITF tournament (W50) in Trnava, Slovakia, which has total prizes of forty thousand dollars, on Wednesday after defeating the experienced Cagla Buyukakcay 6-2 6-4.
Bertea (aged 19, WTA's 313th), who made her debut for Romania's Billie Jean King Cup team last weekend, prevailed after one hour and 46 minutes against the Turkish player, (aged 36 WTA's 309).
Ruxandra Bertea will play in the round of sixteen against Serbia's Mia Ristic, who eliminated the top seed, Belgian player Sofia Costoulas.
Bertea and Ristia (19, WTA's 275th), are level at 1-1 in their head-to-head meetings, after the Serbian won 6-3 1-6 6-1 in August in the quarter-finals in Brasov (W35), while Bertea won in October in Bucharest (W75) 7-5 7-5, also in the quarter-finals.
