The 2027 edition of the International Mountain Rescue Congress will be held in Romania, marking the first time the country hosts this event.
The proposal to organise the event in Romania, the largest global gathering in the field of mountain rescue, was submitted and supported by the leadership of Salvamont Romania to the management of Cisa Ikar during last week's International Congress held in Jackson Hole, USA, according to a post on Salvamont Romania's Facebook page.
The proposal met the required criteria and was put to a vote at the conference plenary, where it was approved unanimously.
"This was a proposal submitted to the executive committee of Cisa Ikar, the world's largest mountain rescue body, which meets annually to implement new practices and recommendations in mountain rescue. We applied to host the 2027 edition of this major event, and we were delighted to be selected and unanimously approved by all participating representatives. We believe this is a significant recognition, as Romania has a well-developed mountain rescue system, we are innovating in the field, and our teams provide solutions to improve rescue operations. Being ranked among the top countries in mountain rescue activity is a major achievement. Organising such a congress is very challenging and it is a great honour - nearly 100 countries are part of this committee, and surely every one of them would like to host such an event," said Sabin Cornoiu, President of Salvamont Romania, in an interview with AGERPRES on Monday.
The proposed location is the Sinaia resort, where Salvamont Romania also organised last year's FIPS Conference - the international meeting of ski slope rescuers.
