Romania needs considerable and urgent investments in education, the percentage of 6% of the Gross Domestic Product being, in the opinion of the Salvati Copiii (Save the Children) Organization, "the only reasonable target in observing the right to fair and quality education for our children."

According to a press release of the Salvati Copiii Organization, the budget increases, which must be based on analysis of the needs in the education system, should not be less than one percent annually, so that 2025 should become the first year in which education, an essential field for "protecting cultural identity," for the first time in the history of the last three decades, would benefit from 6 percent of the GDP, told Agerpres.

According to an analysis published by Salvati Copiii, signed by George Roman, Advocacy Director of the organization, Romania is a champion in child poverty, school dropout and functional illiteracy.

According to the same source, the percentage of 14-year-old children not included in education is 11.35% (2.17 EU average), while there are 16.81% of the 15-year-olds not included in the education system (2.88% in the EU), and 19.26% (5% the EU average) of the 16 years old teenagers.

In the context in which only 1.6% of children under 2 years old have access to early education (9.8% EU average), and the percentage reaches only 21.1% in the case of those who have turned 2 years old (35.2% EU average), Romania needs considerable and urgent investments in education, the percentage of 6% of the Gross Domestic Product being, in the opinion of the Salvati Copiii Organization, the only reasonable target in observing the right to fair and quality education for our children.
