A chemical incident occurred in Comarnic, as there were sulfuric acid leaks from a malfunctioning tanker on Monday morning.
A second tanker arrived on Monday on DN 1, in Comarnic, to transfer the sulfuric acid cargo from the malfunctioning tanker. A sand barrier has been set up in the area to prevent and absorb any potential substance leaks, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
The population was alerted on Monday via the RO-ALERT system about the chemical incident in Comarnic.
"Chemical incident in Comarnic, DN 1, with possible toxic substance releases. Shelter in place, avoid outdoor activities, close doors and windows, block ventilation openings, and turn off ventilation systems!" - this was the message transmitted by the Prahova County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
According to the ISU, people are being evacuated within a 100-metre radius, and on the windward direction (SE), evacuation extends to a distance of about 500 metres.
"A central valve is defective and cannot be turned off; efforts will be made to block it until the CBRN team from USISU Ciolpani arrives," the ISU reported.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, by the time of reporting, 28 people, including six minors, have been evacuated.
"For the safety of the population, a warning message was issued through the RO-ALERT system, and evacuation is ongoing. The nearest home is approximately 30 metres from the incident site. The risk area has been established within a 100-metre radius, and the evacuation perimetre is set at 500 metres. So far, 28 people have been evacuated, including 6 minors. Road traffic is blocked," informed IGSU.
The Romanian Police Infotrafic Centre recommends alternative routes for drivers: Ploiesti - DN 72 - Targoviste - DN 71 - Sinaia - Brasov or Ploiesti - DN 1A - Cheia - Brasov.
