The President of the National Federation of Administration Trade Unions (FNSA), Bogdan Schiop, declared on Friday, at Victoria Palace, that, through the measures in Package 2 announced by the Government, 40,000 people will be laid off, and thus a saving equivalent to the amount that was transferred to political parties between 2024 and May 2025, i.e. approximately 1.4 billion lei, will be achieved, announcing that there will be protests.

"40,000 people will be laid off. Although we tried to explain to the representatives of the Romanian Government everything that this entails, what the negative effects will be, the fact that the budget savings they expect are about 2.5 billion lei, this is the Government's statement. But no one takes into account the fact that these people will have to be paid unemployment, their social security contributions will also be reduced. And, consequently, I believe that by laying off 40,000 people, in fact, a saving equivalent to the amount that was transferred to political parties from 2024 to May 2025 is made, that is, one billion and about 400 million lei," Schiop specified.

He also said that "there is no specification anywhere that, if 40,000 people are laid off, others will not be hired."

The representative of the unions in the administration also said that there would be protests.

"Of course we are taking into account protests. Probably, our colleagues, because legally triggering a strike is a procedure, but probably spontaneous protests will appear in the first phase," he added.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held consultations on Friday with the social partners from the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue regarding the measures in Package 2, for which the Government will assume responsibility in Parliament.

Simion Hâncescu, president of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI), declared that "the opening of the school year will take place, for the first time in Romania in the last 35 years, in front of the Victoria Palace, the Cotroceni Palace, the Prefectures", claiming that the Government is "completely neglecting" Education for a very small financial stake.

The mayors of communes and small towns have also gone on indefinite strike since Friday, expressing dissatisfaction with the measures prepared by the Bologna Government.

"At the moment, there are too few shoulders in the real economy on which this country stands. At the Government level, we will continue to move in the announced directions: reducing state spending, correcting injustices, increasing revenues collected in the state budget and phasing out investments. It is not easy to take all these measures, some of which we do not take with an open heart, but, by implementing them, we will create conditions for the country's development in the coming period", said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, according to a Government press release.

The Government is to approve, on Friday, in the meeting at 6:00 p.m., six projects regarding measures in the field of service pensions, health, recovery and efficiency of public resources, for increasing the financial capacity of administrative-territorial units, regarding the corporate governance of public enterprises and for streamlining the activity of autonomous administrative authorities.
