The second team made up of 40 firefighters set off for France on Saturday, to substitute the staff who helped their French colleagues over the past two weeks to monitor the areas involving wildfire risk, Agerpres reports.

"Today, July 13, the second team made up of 40 firefighters has set off for France, on route Arad - Budapest - Maribor - Ljubljana - Padova - Piacenza - Nice - Montpelier - Perpignan, to substitute the staff who over the past two weeks supported their French colleagues to monitor the wildfire risk areas, in the south of the host country," the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) informs.

Thus, the 40 rescue firemen will be substituted with another military team, who will enclose the intervention technique initially deployed to the French territory.

As of July 1, the 40 firefighters in France got familiarised with the terrain and intervention specific conditions by patrolling the areas involving fire risk.

''These activities have strengthened our response and preparedness capabilities in the event of emergencies that may endanger the life and property of the community. At the same time, our colleagues held training and preparation sessions with their French counterparts, emphasising the essential aspects of rapid and effective intervention in case of wildfires," the source added.

From July 1 to 31, the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) of the Interior Ministry (MAI), through the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations, is participating with a specialist national wildfire fighting module in a pre-positioning programme, organised by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations - DG ECHO, aimed at strengthening the resilience of the French authorities in managing this type of risk.

The programme is meant to reduce the response time in case of wildfires, to streamline the preparedness of intervention modules belonging to the member states and to improve interoperability between participating forces.

The specialist wildfire fighting module activation and putting into operation will be carried out for the execution of specific monitoring and extinguishing missions on the territory of France, in the locations determined by the French partners.

The first contingent, consisting of 40 firefighters and 8 technical means (3 wildfire fighting vehicles of 3,000 litres, 1 tanker of 30,000 litres, 1 large capacity firefighting vehicle of 10,000 litres, 2 first intervention and command vehicles and 1 minibus), left Romania on June 28, and arrived in France on the evening of June 30.
