Seismic reinforcement of buildings in the capital city must be the highest development priority for Bucharest, said the Minister of Development, Cseke Attila.
"Seismic reinforcement of buildings in Bucharest must be the highest development priority for Bucharest. The Ministry of Development has a record budget this year, even in the current economic climate, worth 7.6 billion lei for these investments, but there are few ongoing reinforcements of buildings with seismic risk, although the financing is 100% and the process has been much simplified", the Minister of Development, Cseke Attila told a meeting with the Bucharest Prefecture, the General City Hall of Bucharest, the district mayors and the public advisory services in the districts.
The minister added that the funds should be used for the purpose of seismic safety of citizens, but so far, only 34 objectives have been approved for financing, by Ministerial Order, on the three financing programs of the ministry from the state budget, for safe schools, safe hospitals, public buildings and apartment blocks, of which only seven have been contracted. The seven projects have a total value of 448.2 million lei, and the financing potential is thus not used to the maximum.
At the same time, from European funds, through the PNRR, the ministry signed financing contracts for 44 buildings, but payments worth only 90 million lei were made for these investments, the uptake being 15%, a press release from the Development Ministry reads.
"We have simplified the approval procedures to increase the pace of implementation of seismic consolidation works and, in general, for all public and private investments. I launch a firm appeal to the Bucharest Prefecture, the General City Hall, the sector mayors and the approving institutions to strictly comply with the legal provisions and to do everything possible to help the seismic consolidation works. There is no day to lose when it comes to people's lives and their safety", Cseke Attila said.
