Senate chair Ciuca: Admission to the OECD, an important national objective of Romania

At a meeting on Thursday with Deputy Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen, Chairman of the Romanian Senate Nicolae Ciuca said that Romania's accession to the OECD is an important country objective that offers the opportunity to implement some vital reforms to improve business as well as the standard of living of Romanians, told Agerpres.

"Today, I had a meeting with Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen, deputy secretary general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). I was happy to be his host again, after his last visit to Bucharest in June of this year, and I assured him that we will continue to work together, from my position of president of the joint special committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate supporting the process of Romania's accession to the OECD. This parliamentary committee has an essential role in the process of Romania's accession to the organisation, approving all the normative documents from this approach. I told the distinguished guest that admission to the organisation he represents is an important national objective of Romania," Ciuca wrote in a social media post on Thursday.

He added that the committee will work to translate the OECD recommendations into the national legislation as soon as possible.

"An important project, which Parliament approached as a priority, was the law admitting Romania to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention. I also informed the deputy secretary general that the committee is working on answers to the questionnaires sent by the OECD management ; we prepare the visits of expert missions and prepare the evaluations that will be made by 26 technical committees that analyse Romania's bid. I firmly believe that admission to the OECD is to Romania the opportunity through which vital reforms can be made that will improve both business and the standard of living of Romanians", added Ciuca.
