France has always been Romania's friend and ally, but also a source of authentic European civilization, Senate head and Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said in a message sent on the National Day of the French Republic, adding that ever since the 1848 generation, the social and institutional westernization of the Romanian people has had the French culture and society as a model.

The President of the Senate emphasized that today, the security provided by the French troops stationed in Romania under the NATO banner is essential for Romania's stability in a troubled period fraught with threats and challenges.

"And today, France is a reliable ally of Romania, with plans afoot to increase the capacity of French troops in our country to the level of division by 2027. There is an arc over time, which starts a little over a hundred years ago, when General Henri Berthelot was modernizing the Romanian Army. Just like then, we are now going through a troubled period riddled with threats and challenges, and the security the French troops under the NATO banner provide us is essential for the stability of Romania," Ciuca said.

On Bastille Day, he wished all the French citizens to enjoy the moment and be proud of their country.

"The ideals of the French Revolution of 1789 are today European realities we must defend from the enemies of freedom, equality and fraternity. Vive la France!," Ciuca wrote in the conclusion of his message.
