All procedures related to the reduction of Senate personnel have been completed, resulting in annual savings of 17.5 million lei due to the elimination of 147 positions, Senate President Ilie Bolojan announced on Friday.

'In recent days, all procedures related to the Senate's staff reduction have been finalised, following the decisions adopted at the beginning of the year. Out of 796 positions, 649 remain, of which 31 are unoccupied and reserved for individuals legally suspended. The personnel reduction was achieved by properly standardising staffing levels and by cutting advisory positions attached to committees and the offices of dignitaries. The difference between the initially required salary fund of 93.9 million lei per year and the reduced salary fund of 76.4 million lei per year is 17.5 million lei - approximately 3.5 million euros. This is the amount that will be saved annually as a result of this reorganisation - over 18% savings from the salary fund,' Bolojan wrote on Facebook.

He said that "such reductions can be implemented in many institutions."

'It may not seem like a huge saving, but over three years, it amounts to an underpass at a busy intersection in Bucharest, as the estimated cost of a road underpass is about 10 million euros. Think about the fact that similar reductions can be made across many institutions, and calculate how many underpasses we've lost so far. I thank my colleagues in the Senate leadership and those involved in the reorganisation procedures for carrying them through, despite delays, changes, and the discomfort caused. As we have noticed, the Senate functions well with the current staffing structure. Additionally, electronic attendance tracking has been implemented. I also thank the professional colleagues in the Senate who support senators in their work and contribute daily to the smooth operation of the institution,' Bolojan said.
