Senate Chairman Călin Popescu Tăriceanu said on Tuesday that a civil partnership bill was drawn up by lawyers of the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD), discussed with the ACCEPT organisation and is due to be submitted to Parliament for approval.

"Indeed, before the referendum, I announced that my colleague, MEP Renate Weber, discussed with the NGOs that promote the rights of the LGBT minorities the need to promote a civil partnership bill. So far as I know, the bill has been drawn up together with valuable lawyers of the CNCD, who also discussed with non-governmental organisations, with ACCEPT," Tariceanu told Parliament.

He said the floor leaders of all the parliamentary groups will also be consulted on this issue.

"The bill will be discussed, possibly even today. I knew that my colleague Steluta Cataniciu was going to participate, together with leaders of the other parliamentary groups that had rallied to our discussion initiative, in a preliminary discussion. Afterwards, we can accept the other parliamentary groups also taking responsibility for the bill, which will be submitted to Parliament for a debate," added Tariceanu.

Being told that leaders of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), major at rule, announced the initiation of a bill on this issue, Tariceanu said that he does not want to claim "project paternity."

"I do not want to claim paternity, only paternity for the idea, project paternity, not because I said that it was drawn up by CNCD lawyers in discussions with the ACCPET association. Renate Weber told me she had gone through the project and has some amendments to make, a few remarks; she told me that the bill is good and can be a fundamental for debate in Parliament," national leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) , minor at rule, Tariceanu stated.

He mentioned that he did not have a discussion with PSD leader Liviu Dragnea on this issue.

"No, we did not have a discussion. We had a discussion with Mr Dragnea, but not on this bill, it was a phone conversation because we can talk over the phone as well," Tariceanu said.

On Monday, Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu announced that a civil partnership bill would be submitted to Parliament next week.
