The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, highlighted on Thursday, on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, that the history of a strong nation is built on moments that define its destiny.
'The history of a strong nation is built on moments that define its destiny. On the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, we reaffirm the deep bond between Romanians on both banks of the Prut River. Recently, I had a meeting with His Excellency Mihai Mitu, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bucharest, during which we discussed strengthening our cooperation. We look ahead with confidence, determined to reinforce this historic friendship and to build together a solid European future,' Abrudean wrote on Facebook on Friday.
The Day of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania is celebrated annually on March 27 and is an official national holiday in Romania, established by Law No. 36/2017. This day marks the historic moment of March 27/April 9, 1918, when the Sfatul Tarii in Chisinau voted for the union of the province of Bessarabia with the Kingdom of Romania. Bessarabia was the first of the historical provinces to unite with the country, paving the way for the Great Union of December 1, 1918.
