Cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and connectivity, as well as mutual support internationally, within the UN, EU and NATO, represent the pillars on which diplomatic relations between Romania and Azerbaijan are based, at the level of strategic partnership, the Senate's Speaker Mircea Abrudean said on Tuesday, after a meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of National Assembly in Baku.
"During the official visit I am paying these days to Azerbaijan, I met today with Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan (Milli Majlis). Romania enjoys a significant capital of trust and sympathy in Baku, especially as a result of the political decisions adopted over time in bilateral relations. We must not forget that we were the second state, after Turkey, to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991," Abrudean wrote on Facebook.
He added that on Wednesday he would participate in Baku in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"Our diplomatic relations are at the level of strategic partnership, based on two basic pillars: 1. intensified cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and connectivity; 2. international support - UN, EU, NATO. I am always glad to see that our country is a pillar of trust and high representation. I will come with more news from Azerbaijan, tomorrow, from the plenary session of their Parliament, from the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan", added Abrudean.
