President of the Senate Mircea Abrudean said on Monday, at the 4th edition of the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, held in Stockholm, that Romania continues to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.

"Russia's aggressive war is a flagrant violation of international law, as well as an attack on democracy and human rights. The world must strengthen its support for Ukraine's fight to defend its sovereignty and restore its territorial integrity. From the very beginning, Romania has condemned in the strongest terms, the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the current illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression of the Russian Federation. We remain fully committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary and we support Ukraine's path towards full membership of the EU and NATO. Taking into account the challenges we are confronted with today, decisive and coordinated action is essential. We must take action in this regard," Abrudean said, agerpres reports.

He brought to mind that on 10 November 2025, Romania's Senate adopted a draft law criminalising the violation and circumvention of international sanctions against Russia, under which "those who assist individuals and companies on the sanctions list will no longer get away with a simple fine, but will be held criminally liable and face imprisonment."

"As regards global efforts to support Ukraine, I welcome the establishment of the Register of Damage for Ukraine, which became operational in 2024. I also welcome the next step towards accountability and justice for Ukraine, namely the future establishment of an International Claims Commission for Ukraine, as well as the identification of the most appropriate sources of funding for the creation of a compensation fund for the damages determined and granted by this commission. Dear colleagues, these are clear signs of the international community's determination to reaffirm the supremacy of international law, to restore confidence in the rules-based order, where international law takes precedence over force. We remain united for a lasting and just peace for Ukraine and for the Ukrainian people," Abrudean added in his speech.

The President of the Senate highlighted that regional security cannot be built "if the rules are ignored."

"Russia's war has caused profound suffering to the people of Ukraine. Millions of families have lost their homes, relatives or their sense of safety. Women, children and the elderly have paid the highest price. These effects go beyond Ukraine's borders. They affect the entire region. They also affect Romania. You cannot build regional security if the rules are ignored. No country can feel safe under such conditions. Romania stands with Ukraine. We have offered protection to those who fled the war. We have provided humanitarian aid, financial support and shelter. We continue to support Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. This includes Crimea. Slava Ukraini!," Abrudean conveyed.
