Bilateral cooperation, Romania's support for Moldova's European jurney, joint projects in the economic, energy and security areas were the main subjects of a meeting on Thursday of Chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean and Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who is in Romania on his first foreign visit since taking office.

"Romania remains the most constant and strongest supporter of the Republic of Moldova. We will continue to stand by Chisinau at every stage of European integration, because the European future of the Republic of Moldova is also our common future. The fact that the first official visit of the prime minister takes place in Romania is proof of the solid partnership between our countries. Today's discussion was a warm and friendly one, as the conversations between Bucharest and Chisinau always are," Abrudean wrote in a social media post.

Abrudean congratulated Munteanu and his government team on the recent results of the elections in Moldova, underlining the exemplary way in which they were organised.

"The Republic of Moldova is an example of how it has managed the challenges of this complicated period, in a context in which the whole of Europe is facing increasingly aggressive forms of hybrid warfare. We will continue to stand by Chisinau at every stage of European integration."

Abrudean also highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting the European integration process.

"Through direct contacts and interparliamentary partnerships, we can help harmonise national legislation with European legislation and build the political trust needed to move negotiations forward."

In his turn, Munteanu underlined the significant progress made by Moldova in recent years, referring to the recent elections, efforts to combat foreign interference and the firm commitment to joining the European Union.

"The Republic of Moldova has undergone profound changes in the last four years. The EU accession process, investments, security and resilience are the central pillars of our governmental action," Munteanu said.

The official visit to Bucharest of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu takes place one day before Moldova takes over the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe - the decision-making body of the Council of Europe - an office that Moldova will hold for the next six months.
