Seven Romanian crews reach Finals A at European rowing championships

Seven Romanian crews on Thursday advanced to Finals A at the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

In the women's pair, Simona Radis, making her debut in this event, and Magdalena Rusu won Heat 1 setting a European record (06:51.79) and progressing to Final A.

A European record was also set by Romania's men's four - Stefan Berariu, Sergiu Bejan, Andrei Mandrila and Ciprian Tudosa (05:44.06) - thus securing their presence in Final A.

Compatriots Andrada Morosanu and Mariana Dumitru also qualified in the women's double sculls Final A, after coming in second in Heat 1 (06:48.18).

In the women's four, Adriana Adam, Maria Lehaci, Ancuta Bodnar and Amalia Beres finished second in the preliminary race (06:24.09), after the Netherlands.

In the women's quadruple sculls, Romania (Emanuela Ciotau, Cristina Druga, Madalina Cornea and Patricia Cires) qualified for Final A from the third place in Heat 2 (06:20.00).

Romania won Heat 1 in women's eight (Andreea Popa, Iuliana Buhus, Daria Dinulescu, Roxana Anghel, Iulia Balauca, Geanina Juncanariu, Simona Radis, Magdalena Rusu and Victoria Petreanu) and advanced to Final A, being .06 behind the European record (05:59.77) set in Heat 2 by the Netherlands (5:58.13).

The men's eight crew (Mihaita Tiganescu, Alexandru Danciu, Bogdan Baitoc, Claudiu Neamtu, Constantin Adam, Mugurel Semciuc, Alexandru Ciobica, Leontin Nutescu and Adrian Munteanu) qualified for Final A, after finishing third on Heat 1 (5:25.59).

Four other Romanian men will compete in semifinals.

Olympic champions Sebastian Cornea and Marian Enache won Heat 2 in the men's double sculls with a new European record (06:05.73), advancing to the semifinals.

In the men's pair, Florin Lehaci and Florin Arteni won Heat 2 (06:17.90) and will compete in the semifinals.

Also competing in semifinals will by Ioan Prundeanu, Iulian Chelaru, Andrei Lungu and Alexandru Gherasim, in the men's quadruple sculls (05:49.81), after finishing fifth in Heat 1.

Mihai Chiruta won Heat 3 in the men's single sculls (06:44.89), so he will start in the semifinals.

In the women's single sculls, Alexandra Ungureanu took fifth place in Heat 1 (07:36.14) advancing to Final C.

At the 2024 European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, Romania ranked second in the final medal ranking by nations, after Great Britain, with eight medals: four gold, two silver and two bronze. AGERPRES
