The President of the Sibiu County Council (CJ), Daniela Cimpean, believes that a possible abolition of the position of deputy mayor in localities with fewer than 1,500 inhabitants must take into account the realities of each community.
"The discussion regarding a possible abolition of the position of deputy mayor in communes with under 1,500 inhabitants is, at this moment, a hypothesis that has not been officially confirmed by the governing coalition. Making public administration more efficient is, without a doubt, necessary. But such a reform must be based on well-founded solutions, built by those who have all the relevant information and have institutional powers in this regard. I believe that it is essential that the analysis also takes into account the specifics of the activity of local authorities, which manage different realities, depending on the territory, resources and the challenges specific to each community," Daniela Ckmpean declared for AGERPRES on Tuesday.
In Sibiu County there are nine communes with a population of less than 1,500 inhabitants: Rau Sadului (564), Ludos (623), Bruiu (953), Marpod (1045), Mihaileni (1135), Carta (1229), Apoldu de Jos (1239), Tilisca (1370), Cartisoara (1380).
The Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, Cseke Attila, stated on Monday that local and central public administrations must be made more efficient and the position of deputy mayor must be abolished in administrative-territorial units with less than 1,500 inhabitants. The measure is also mentioned in the government program and is expected to be adopted this year to enter into force on January 1, 2026.
