A Greek citizen who was internationally wanted was detected by Romanian police officers following a traffic stop, the man being detained and imprisoned in the Detention and Preventive Arrest Centre within the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate (IPJ).
"A man, internationally wanted for crimes of aggravated robbery and aggravated theft, was detected by police officers from Sibiu, following a traffic stop, on June 9, in Sibiu, during a proactive action carried out by the Sibiu Roads Police. Following the verification of the driver's documents, the police officers found that the man, 42 years old, a Greek citizen, who was living illegally in Sibiu, was listed as being internationally wanted," a press release of the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate informs on Tuesday.
A European arrest warrant was issued in his name by the Greek authorities, over the commission of crimes of aggravated robbery and aggravated theft.
The man was presented to the prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal, who ordered his detention for 24 hours.
