Engineering and technology group Simtel, which is publicly listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange's main market, and electricity producer Verbund Wind Power Romania signed a contract worth approximately EUR 19.1 million (VAT excluded) for the design, construction and commissioning of a photovoltaic park with an installed capacity of 60 MWp in Casimcea, Tulcea County, a release informs.

The project's estimated implementation duration is 15 months, to which adds a performance guarantee period of 36 months. Simtel will provide all the services specific to an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract, delivering a turnkey photovoltaic power plant that will complement the existing infrastructure and contribute to the hybridization of the CAS South 2 wind park operated by Verbund Wind Power Romania in the same area.

"With an operational wind power capacity of 226 MW in Romania, Verbund has been contributing to Romania's energy transition for years now. The integration of a 60 MWp photovoltaic park perfectly complements the existing wind power facility and allows us to develop the first hybrid renewable energy park in Romania. We are delighted that Simtel will be our EPC partner in this project," said Adrian Borotea, managing director of Verbund Wind Power Romania, the Romanian subsidiary of Austria's Verbund Group, as cited in the release.

In Casimcea, Verbund has been operating a 226 MW wind park ever since 2012. The hybridization of the existing wind park represents one of the most important hybrid renewable energy projects underway in Romania, marking a milestone in the country's energy transition, the release states.

"We are honored to contribute to a project of such scale, which brings together two major sources of renewable energy - wind and solar - within the same operational platform. Also, we thank the Verbund team for picking Simtel as a partner to implement its first photovoltaic investment in Romania. This represents a validation of our technical capability and experience accumulated in the field of photovoltaic plant construction. At the same time, this project reflects the growing trend of integrating multiple renewable sources into a hybrid production model that is more efficient and flexible. Hybridization involves the integration of renewable energy production technologies into a single infrastructure, with the aim of increasing the stability and predictability of the output. Solar energy perfectly complements wind power, particularly during low-wind periods, thus optimizing grid usage and investment profitability. We believe that this model will increasingly gain ground in Romania, and the Casimcea project is a first confirmation in this regard," said Simtel Team CEO Mihai Tudor.

Over the past five years, Simtel has designed and commissioned photovoltaic installations with a total capacity of over 500 MWp for clients from various industries.

The photovoltaic parks Simtel currently provides operation and maintenance services for total over 450 MWp of installed capacity, covering 412 photovoltaic plants and involving over 5,000 annual interventions.

Simtel is a technology, engineering and innovation group with Romanian roots which offers companies and organizations complete solutions and integrated ecosystems, from consultancy, authorization, design, engineering and construction, to maintenance, operation, measurement, control and energy supply.

Verbund is Austria's largest energy company and one of the largest producers of hydroelectric power in Europe. The group generates around 96% of its electricity from renewable sources, mainly from hydropower.
