Slight decrease in unemployment rate recorded in October versus September

The unemployment rate in Romania reached 5.4% in October, down 0.2 percent from September, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The unemployment rate for men was by 0.8 percent higher than for women, 5.7% against 4.9% respectively.

In October 2024, the number of unemployed people (aged 15-74) was 441,100 people, down compared to the previous month (457,800 people), but also compared to October 2023, 453,900 people.

INS data reveal that the unemployment rate among young people (15-24 years old) remains high (25.3%), recorded between July and September 2024.

For adults (25-74 years old), the unemployment rate was estimated at 4.1% for October this year (3.9% for women and 4.3% for men).

The number of unemployed people in the same age group represents 72.3% of the total number of unemployed people estimated for October 2024.
