A soldier from Satu Mare County on Thursday proposed to his girlfriend in the Freedom Square in Satu Mare before the start of local events dedicated to December 1, Romania's National Day.
A few minutes before the start of the ceremony, Andrei Pop of the 52nd Tisa Engineer Battalion called his girlfriend to the microphone, got down on his knees, offered her a ring and in front of everyone asked her if she wanted to be his wife. Paula Petric said "Yes", after which she received a bouquet of roses. Later, the soldier rejoined the column to participate in a parade.
Romania's National Day was celebrated in Satu Mare with laying of wreaths at the Unknown Warrior memorial, where children performed. Prefect Radu Roca read a message from Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, after which administration officials, political leaders and association leaders laid wreaths.
The event ended with a parade and presentation of riot control gear. AGERPRES
