The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, declared on Monday that state reform must start from the top and not from the people who work hard, after Parliament voted to amend the Statute of Deputies and Senators, which no longer allows the settlement of rent expenses for parliamentarians who own a home in the Capital or in Ilfov County.

"No money from the state for housing parliamentarians with properties in Bucharest-Ilfov! State reform must start from the top and not from the people who work hard! Thus, Parliament voted today on the amendment that I proposed, in an emergency regime, to the Statute of Deputies and Senators, through which it is no longer possible to settle rent expenses for parliamentarians who own a home in the Capital or in Ilfov County," Grindeanu wrote on Facebook, agerpres reports.

He added that "it is the first legislative anomaly" that he is correcting as President of the Chamber of Deputies.

"And this is just the beginning! I will quickly come up with a package of consistent measures that will include a drastic cut in privileges and perks. I repeat: we must act from the top down if we want to successfully overcome this difficult period for the Romanian economy," Grindeanu said.
