Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Woo Won-shik, South Korean ambassador to Romania Rim Kap-soo, as well as high-level representatives of utility provider Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) visited on Saturday the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, the facility's operator - national nuclear power company Nuclearelectrica announced.
Nuclearelectrica CEO Cosmin Ghita highlighted the importance of collaborating with KHNP on two major projects: the retrofitting of Cernavoda Unit 1 and the development of the first tritium removal facility in Romania, Nuclearelectrica said in a release.
"We are happy to strengthen our partnership and collaboration with KHNP in order to retrofit Unit 1. This is a vital project for Romania's energy security and a landmark for international cooperation in the nuclear sector," said Cosmin Ghita.
The visit represents an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea, reflecting shared values, technological excellence and a unified vision for a sustainable energy future.
"Together with KHNP, we are delivering a high-impact project that will ensure another 30 years of clean energy for Romanians and the Romanian industry," Cosmin Ghita added.
The tritium removal facility, another strategic project that is being developed together with KHNP, will contribute to improving environmental performance and consolidate Romania's regional leadership in the line of advanced nuclear technologies.
