Cristian Mocanu, a young entrepreneur from the city of Tulcea, offers outdoor enthusiasts stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) rides in the Danube Delta, a new tourist product that adds to those initiated by the Ivan Patzaichin - Mila 23 Association and private operators who promote slow, nature-friendly tourism.

A graduate of the UK's Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, 30-year-old Cristian Mocanu discovered his passion for nature and outdoor exercise in 2017, in Sfantu Gheorghe - Tulcea County, where a SUP competition was held in a swimming pool as part of the Anonimul international indie film festival.

"Later on, in 2020, at the same festival, I rented a boat together with some friends and drove them through the places I knew. That's when we concluded that we need to discover the Delta in a different way. Everyone can jet around in powerful boats, but we need to find a different way," Cristian Mocanu told AGERPRES.

That same year, guided by his father, he made the first mold of a stand-up paddleboard; two years ago he installed a board locker on the shore of Lake Ciuperca, which he later moved to Bucharest and Constanta.

"The SUP tours I organize in the Delta are just at the beginning. Since it's a new activity, it's not a successful business, it's just testing the waters. For it to be successful, mentalities must change," Mocanu said.

The SUP trips in the Delta involve a six-hour ride on a catamaran to a lake, where the guests can learn to paddle with all the necessary equipment at their disposal, including water, fruit and an access permit to the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, plus an optional fish lunch.

The price of a trip is RON 250 per person, with children having a 50% discount, and the fishing lunch costs RON 80.
