The University of Arts in Targu-Mures is organizing, from Friday until November 23, the 11th edition of the STUDIO International Festival - Meeting of Theatre Schools, with participation from theatre schools in Romania and several other countries.
The Studio International Theatre Festival - Meeting of Theatre Schools 2025, will officially open on Friday at 7:30 PM, until then, guests can attend the opening of the photography exhibition called "Abstract - 2.1" organized in the lobby of the Studio Theatre and watch the performance "Csongor si Tünde" presented by the Hungarian Faculty of Arts of the University of Arts Targu Mures.
After the opening of the festival, the Hungarian Faculty of Arts will present the performance "Hamlet."
Within the STUDIO International Theatre Festival, in addition to performances of theatre schools, numerous workshops are organized, covering topics such as how to excel in a poor-quality play and tools for actor creativity when not guided by a director, actor presence in films, pre-stage techniques such as body awareness and control, actor training for discovering artistic individuality and more.
Alongside Romanian theatre faculties, the festival includes troupes and lecturers from Austria, Israel, Ukraine, Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain, Serbia and other countries.
As of 2008, the University of Arts in Targu Mures has organized the STUDIO International Theatre Festival - Meeting of Theatre Schools and after the second edition, the festival took a hiatus for several years and was resumed in 2017.
"Since then, it has become a tradition that in the last week of November, theatre schools across the country and from various parts of the world meet in Targu Mures for a week full of performances, workshops, exhibitions, concerts and other unique events each year. With each edition, the festival's duration increases due to the growing number of invited universities, participants and activities. Registration for the STUDIO International Festival is exclusively for specialized universities worldwide. The festival director is Professor Oana Leahu PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts in Romanian Language," the festival website informs.
The Studio Theatre in Targu Mures, a public performance institution under the University of Arts in Targu Mures, has achieved notable success in terms of audience numbers.
"Since its inauguration in October 1962, the Studio Theatre has gradually become a center of attraction not only for the students and university teaching staff, but also for the Targu Mures audience, establishing over the years the qualities of a truly professional theatre. The first theatre season was attended by 19,864 spectators across 105 public performances, while the 1965-1966 season achieved the greatest public success, with a total of 23,550 spectators," the University of Arts in Targu Mures website mentioned.
The main objective of the Studio Theatre is to promote performances by graduates of acting, directing, theatre studies and music pedagogy programmes.
