Table tennis: Romania wins eight medals in the European championshios for juniors in Ostrava

Romanian athletes won eight medals, two gold, two silver and four bronze, at the European Table Tennis Championships for Under-19 and Under-15 juniors that ended on Sunday in Ostrava (Czech Republic), according to the website of the Romanian Table Tennis Federation.

In the Under-19 men's doubles, Iulian Chirita and Portuguese Tiago Abiodun defeated Dragos Bujor and Robert Istrate, 3-0, in the final (11-5, 11-6, 11-5). In the semifinals, Chirita and Abiodun defeated Poles Rafal Formela/Alan Kulczycki, 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-5), and Bujor and Istrate won the semifinal with Ioan Velicikov (Bulgaria)/Julian Rzihauschek (Austria) 3-1 (11-9, 11-9, 2-11, 11-7).

In the men's singles, Dragos Bujor won the bronze medal after losing the semifinal to Hungarian David Szantosi, 1-4 (7-11, 4-11, 4-11, 11-5, 3-11).

Bianca Mei-Rosu also won bronze in the Under-19 women's singles, after losing in the semifinals to Ukrainian Veronika Matiunin, 3-4 (11-9, 11-13, 11-6, 6-11, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11).

Mei-Rosu also won bronze in the U19 women's doubles, alongside Slovenian Sara Tokic, after losing the semifinals to the pair Veronika Matiunin (Ukraine)/Matilde Pinto (Portugal), 0-3 (10-12, 9-11, 5-11).

Previously, Romania had won three other medals, gold for the U19 men's team (Dragos Bujor, Iulian Chirita, Robert Istrate, Luca Oprea), silver through Iulian Chirita (and Welshwoman Anna Hursey), in the U19 mixed doubles, and bronze through Bianca Mei-Rosu (and Portuguese Tiago Abiodun), in the U19 mixed doubles.

At the 2024 U19 and U15 European Championships, Romania won 11 medals (4-3-4).
