The Targu Mures Zoological Garden ranks second in Europe, after the one in Antwerp, in the number of military macaw (Ara militaris), the mayor of the municipality, Soos Zoltan, announced on Thursday, informs Agerpres.

"What is really special? Targu Mures Zoo ranks second in Europe, after the Antwerp Zoo, in terms of the number of Ara militaris mcaws, and besides these, it also houses many other rare species of exotic birds. The bird pavilion has been refurbished and modernized to offer a unique experience to visitors. With large glass areas and a common area created for relaxing walks, visitors, big and small, now have the opportunity to get closer to exotic birds and observe them without barriers," Soos Zoltan wrote on Facebook.

The Zoological Garden in Targu Mures is the largest in the country, home to about 800 animals from over 150 local and exotic species and was visited in 2024 by over 300,000 people.
