TAROM is joining the first global airline initiative to combat human trafficking, coordinated by the international alliance SkyTeam, of which it is a member, the national airline announced on Monday.
SkyTeam and its member airlines issued a joint Anti-Human Trafficking Declaration in Delhi, on June 1, the first coordinated initiative of its kind by a global airline alliance to help prevent the scourge of human trafficking internationally.
According to a company press release, human trafficking affects millions of people around the world, many of whom are transported by air, and as a partner in the SkyTeam Alliance, TAROM will actively contribute to its prevention by working with authorities and non-governmental organizations and by promoting an organizational culture based on vigilance, empathy and respect for human rights.
"It was natural to join this global initiative launched by SkyTeam. Human trafficking has no place in the world we want to live in. Through education, collaboration and concrete action, we can make a real difference," TAROM CEO Costin Iordache was quoted as saying in the press release.
In support of the Declaration, SkyTeam has set up a dedicated working group bringing together representatives from each member airline, and TAROM, like all member airlines, is committed to raising awareness among passengers and frontline staff, equip cabin and ground staff to identify and report suspicions of human trafficking, share best practices with other SkyTeam member airlines, and build partnerships with NGOs and authorities, including at government level.
The declaration against human trafficking adopted by SkyTeam is based on five fundamental principles: ethical responsibility, empathy and respect, awareness and education, collaboration and partnerships, and support for survivors.
"TAROM reiterates that aviation must be an area of complete safety. Together with its partners in SkyTeam, Romania's national airline is committed, in each of its travels, to protect human dignity and to take concrete action against exploitation," emphasizes the press release of the national air operator.
