Team Romania fails to medal at World Judo Junior Championships in Lima

Team Romania ended the World Judo Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, without a medal. Its best ranking was Laura Bogdan's 7th place finish in the women's 48 kg category.

In men's 90 kg category, David Gliga was defeated on Tuesday by Russian Aleksei Bulgakov in the first round.

Bogdan Petre in the men's 100 kg category lost to Serbian Milan Bulaja after defeating Canadian Yehor Paladii in the opening round. Bulaja later won the gold medal.

Darius Dobre debuted with a victory over Brazilian Gabriel Dos Santos in men's +100 kg, but then lost in the round of 16 to Russian Bislan Katamardov, who later became junior world champion.

In the women's events, +78 kg category, Romania's Roxana Visa defeated Kharla Casas of Chile in the first round but lost in the round of 16 to Cuban Dayanara Curbelo Travieso. In the same category, Daria Tudorache defeated Slovakia's Nika Filkorova in the first round but was defeated in the round of 16 by France's Leonie Minkada-Caquineau, who later won the bronze medal.

Team Romania was made up of eight judokas, three men and five women.

As many as 463 judokas from 65 countries, 245 men and 218 women, lined up for the competition.

Japan dominated the championships, with 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals, followed in the ranking by Brazil (2-1-2) and neutral athletes (1-3-1).
