Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Thursday that a true form of respect from the political class for the Colectiv nightclub tragedy would have been, among other things, for Romania to have a fully functional hospital for treating severe burn patients ten years after the disaster.

"I went there today and laid a bouquet of flowers, and I can only say: may God rest the souls of those who perished in this tragedy. I extend my deepest compassion to their families and, how shall I put it, there are things that depend on us most of them in domestic politics and there are things that do not, many of them in foreign policy," Bolojan said on private broadcaster Antena 1 when asked about the Colectiv tragedy.

Bolojan added that, ten years after the Colectiv tragedy, Romania still does not have a functional hospital capable of treating severe burn victims.

"But a genuine sign of respect from the political class for this tragedy would have been, among other things, to have a functional hospital ten years on one able to treat severe burn patients. The fact that we still don't have such a facility, sadly, shows the true measure of that respect. Beyond that, what more can I say?" the prime minister remarked.
