Sevastova (27 years old, #16WTA) pulled off 8 aces, but also made 6 double mistakes in her first match with Vinci (34 years old, #42WTA).
Halep (25) leads 4-3 in the direct matches to Sevastova, having defeated her in the last three confrontations, last year in Bucharest's finals, 6-0, 6-0, this year in Stuttgart, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and in Madrid's semifinals, 6-2, 6-3. However, the Latvian holds two victories on hard courts. Halep lost the finals in Cincinnati in 2015 to Serena Williams, and last year she stopped in the semifinals, defeated by Angelique Kerber.
