Teodor Melescanu resigns as Senate's head

The Senate's President Teodor Melescanu resigned on Monday.

"I have decided to withdraw from office, although the decision of the CCR [Constitutional Court] has not been published," Melescanu told the Senate.

The resignation comes after, on January 22, the Constitutional Court has ruled that the election of Teodor Melescanu as head of the Senate is unconstitutional.
