The 15th edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB), which brings together poets from more than 30 countries and includes more than 60 events, opens on Monday, in the Aula of the Central University Library "Carol I", informs Agerpres.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES by the organizers, the event, which has cultural and diplomatic personalities among its guests, will include many poetry readings featuring guests from Romania, the USA, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Honduras, as well as a concert performed by the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin".

In 2025, FIPB offers poetry lovers no less than 224 moments of public readings, supported by important names of the international poetry scene from more than 30 countries, alongside top Romanian authors such as Ana Blandiana, Ion Muresan, Magda Carneci, Nora Iuga, Dinu Flamand, Simona Popescu, Octavian Soviany, Radu Vancu or Varujan Vosganian.

During the festival, visual art lovers will be able to explore five exhibitions, each bringing a different perspective on poetry and artistic expression. They will also be able to take part in cello recitals with Jean-Marie Leclair, fado concerts with Jezebel, jazz and experimental music with Mircea Tiberian, Nadia Trohin, Mircea Rusu Band or poetic-musical events with Mircea Florian.

A special element of the 2025 edition will be the thematic poetry evenings, dedicated to national literatures and contemporary poetic communities, organized in partnership with embassies and cultural institutes in Bucharest.

"The French evening brings poets and translators into dialogue with Romanian poetry, in the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Parisian cultural environment; the Turkish evening explores contemporary Anatolian poetry through bilingual readings and discussions about the reception of this literature in Romania; the Georgian evening (in partnership with the Embassy of Georgia) highlights the spiritual tradition of Saint Antim Ivireanul, highlighting the poetry of identity, language and cultural memory. Other thematic evenings, dedicated to poetry from Mexico, Cuba, Portugal and Chile, will include readings, book launches and traditional music moments (fado, South American guitar)," reads the same source.

Another moment is the integration of FIPB into the international network Bosques de la Poesia, initiated in partnership with the International Bosques de la Poesia Movement, founded in 2020 by writers Leopoldo "Teuco" Castilla, Pedro Solans and Aldo Parfeniuk.

"As part of this global project, trees are planted in gardens and memorial spaces, creating "poetic forests" symbols of peace, dialogue and cultural memory. In Romania, the cherry tree planting ceremony will take place at the "Tudor Arghezi - Martisor Memorial House, marking the inauguration of the Tudor Arghezi Poetry Garden, part of an international cultural map alongside poetic forests in Mexico, Spain, Chile, Japan and Argentina," the press release states.

The FIPB programme also includes moments of remembrance dedicated to authors Gheorghe Craciun, Andrei Bodiu and Ion Stratan, as well as the "Virgil Tanase - 80" moment, which honours the memory of this recently deceased author.

The FIPB events will take place in the Garden of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, the BCU "Carol I" Aula, the Cervantes Institute, the French Institute, ARCUB, bookstores and art galleries, with free access for the public.

The Bucharest International Poetry Festival is a project carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, being organized by the Bucharest City Hall through the National Museum of Romanian Literature in the capital city.
