The pieces of the Dacian treasure stolen from the Museum in Drents, the Netherlands, must be quickly recovered by the authorities and returned safely to Romania, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Saturday.

"I trust the Dutch side to do their job and quickly catch the thieves. I discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Hurezeanu, and I assured him of the full support of the Romanian Government for the rapid resolution of the situation. These priceless pieces must return as soon as possible to the Romanian heritage," Ciolacu wrote in a social media post, Agerpres.

Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) has reported that on Saturday morning, the National Museum of History of Romania (MNIR) and the Ministry of Culture of Romania were notified that the Museum in Drents, the Netherlands, where the exhibition "Dacia! Rijk van goud en zilver/Dacia! The Kingdom of Gold and Silver" was mounted in cooperation with MNIR, was affected by an explosion and several exhibits were stolen.

First investigations reveal that the explosion was aimed at breaking into the museum building, where pieces from the Dacian treasure of Romania are exhibited, and the authorities reported that a number of exhibits were stolen by the perpetrators who are still unidentified. The investigation and inventory of the parts are ongoing.
