Three migrants from Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan were caught trying to leave the country illegally, hiding on metal tubes transported in a truck driven by a Romanian citizen, Arad Border Police said on Wednesday.
The truck was checked at the Varsand Border Crossing Point and the driver (32 years old) declared that he was transporting metal tubing on the Romania-Czech route.
"On the basis of the risk profile, a thorough check of the means of transport was carried out, as a result of which the border guards discovered three foreign nationals in the compartment intended for the transport of goods on the metal tubing.
The persons in question were taken to the border police headquarters for investigation, where our colleagues established that they are citizens of Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan, aged between 27 and 40 years," says the information sent by the Arad Border Police.
The driver is being investigated for migrant smuggling, while the foreign nationals are being investigated for attempted fraudulent border crossing.
