Three Romanians qualified on Wednesday for the quarter-finals of the Under-19 European Boxing Championships in Ostrava (Czech Republic): Rebeca Micaela Muller, Razvan Ionut Panainte and Iulian Stefan Udroiu.
In the women's competition, in the 54 kg category, Rebeca Micaela Muller defeated Latvia's Nikola Cerkasina on points (5-0) in the first round and will face Ukraine's Uliana Ovsepian in the quarter-finals on 4 October.
In the men's competition, Razvan Ionut Panainte won against Czech boxer Max Plachetka in the first round of the 50 kg category and will meet Poland's Szymon Gryszyn in the quarter-finals on 4 October.
In the 55 kg category, Iulian Stefan Udroiu prevailed over Hungary's Gabor Molnar and will box against Ukraine's Rashid Bonus in the quarter-finals on 5 October.
Denisa Ana Maria Duta was defeated by Poland's Natalia Newiadomska (0-5) in the first round of the 48 kg category.
In the 51 kg category, in the first round, Natalia Maria Semeniciuc lost on points to Ukraine's Taisia Pokusai (0-5).
Amalia Tugui also lost on points (0-5) to Turkey's Yagmur Teke in the first round of the 65 kg category.
In the 60 kg category, England's Ela-Mae Lonsdale defeated Rocio Trigos Bucur on points in the first round.
Romania is participating with 15 athletes - 8 men and 7 women - at the Under-19 European Boxing Championships in Ostrava, with the national team's objective being to win at least two medals.
