Arrivals in Romania's tourist accommodation establishments (rental apartments and rooms included) in 2024 totaled 14.263 million people, up 4.5% compared to 2023, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), published on Wednesday.
Out of the total number of arrivals, those of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation facilities accounted for 83.3%, while foreign tourist arrivals accounted for 16.7%.
The number of overnight stays registered last year in tourist accommodation units (rental apartments and rooms included) amounted to 30.191 million, up by 3.5% compared to 2023. Romanian tourists' overnight stays accounted for 83.7%, while foreign tourists' overnight stays accounted for 16.3%.
The average length of stay in 2024 was 2.1 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.
The net occupancy rate for accommodation units in 2024 was 30.9% overall (rental apartments and rooms included), up by 0.2 percentage points compared to 2023.
By counties, in 2024, the number of tourist arrivals in tourist accommodation units (rental apartments and rooms included) was higher in Bucharest (1.998 million persons), Constanta (1.754 million persons) and Brasov (1.508 million persons), while overnight stays recorded higher values in Constanta (5.564 million persons), Bucharest (3.955 million persons) and Brasov (2.823 million persons).
By country, the highest number of arrivals of foreign tourists staying in tourist accommodation units, including apartments and rooms for rent, in 2024, came from Germany (240,400 persons), Italy (213,500 persons) and Israel (151,500 persons).
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border crossing points, totaled 13.352 million people. Means of road transport were the most used by foreign visitors (82.1% of total arrivals during the period).
The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border crossings, totaled 16.059 million people, 74.3% of them using road transportation and 24.9% using air transportation.
Moreover, arrivals registered in tourist accommodation units (rental apartments and rooms included) in December 2024 amounted to 962,800 persons, up by 6.8% compared to December 2023. The arrivals of Romanian tourists accounted for 83.7% and those of foreign tourists for 16.3%.
Overnight stays registered in tourist accommodation units (rental apartments and rooms included), in the last month of last year, totaled 1.820 million, up 4.9% compared to December 2023. Romanian tourists' overnight stays accounted for 81.4%, while foreign tourists' overnight stays amounted to 18.6%.
The average length of stay in December 2024 was 1.8 days for Romanian tourists and 2.2 days for foreign tourists. The net utilization index of tourist accommodation capacity in operation was 25.1% overall (rental apartments and rooms included), up by 0.3 percentage points compared to December 2023.
The arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at border crossing points, in December 2024, totaled 916,100 and road means of transportation were the most used (85.9%).
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border crossings in December 2024, totaled 1.007 million, 81% of whom preferred to use road transportation and 18.1% preferred air transportation. AGERPRES
