Trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 1.6%, as a gross series, in the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period in 2023, and by 1.7% as series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Thus, the increase in the gross series of the volume of turnover in the wholesale retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles was supported by the increase in turnover in: trade in motorcycles, spare parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+18.7%), trade in spare parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+7.6%) and trade in motor vehicles (+1.8%). In contrast, motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities decreased by 15.6%.
According to the INS, the total volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, gross series, in September 2024, compared to the previous month, saw an increase of 10.2%, due to the increases recorded in motor vehicle trade (+15.6%), motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities (+3.7%) and trade in spare parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+2.9%). Trade in motorcycles, spare parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of motorcycles decreased by 8.6%.
On an adjusted basis, the total volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 1.3% in September 2024, compared to the previous month.
Against September 2023, the total volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, gross series, decreased by 1.8%, as a result of the decreases recorded in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles activities (-17.2%) and in the trade in motor vehicles (-2.7%). Increases were recorded in the trade in motorcycles, spare parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+16.5%) and trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+5.7%).
On an adjusted basis, depending on the number of business days and seasonality, the total turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles saw a decrease of 1.6% in September 2024 compared to September 2023.
