The number of companies which suspended their business in the first five months of 2023 was 6,899, up 14.56% compared to the same period of 2022, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).
Most companies which suspended their business in the mentioned interval were from Bucharest, namely 866 (up 40.13% compared to January-May 2022), followed by Cluj, with 475 suspended companies (up 69.64%), Brasov - 311 (up 30.13%), Iasi - 273 (-3.19%) and Timis - 257 (up 19.53%).
At the opposite end, the fewest suspensions were recorded in the counties of Tulcea - 46 (down 4.17% compared to the first five months of 2022), Giurgiu - 49 (minus 5.77%), Covasna - 50 (the same as in the same period last year) and Gorj - 55 (plus 1.85%).
By business sectors, the highest number of suspensions was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles - 1,725 (-2.6%), in professional, scientific and technical activities - 702 suspensions (+27.87%) and information and communication - 688 suspensions (+76.41%).
In May, a number of 1,411 companies suspended their business, most of them in Cluj county (156), Bucharest (146) and the counties of Iasi (62), Brasov (58) and Timis (57).
