The National Electricity Transmission Company Transelectrica S.A. inaugurated on Thursday, in Sibiu, the Center for Research and Development of Live Voltage Work Technologies and Rapid Intervention in the National Energy System (SEN) - the only facility of this kind in the country - which will serve as a training facility for experts in the field, the company informed in a release.
The investment was carried out in two stages, of which the second complements the development of the "Stelian Alexandru Gal" Center of Excellence in Sibiu, which now includes both the Live Work Polygon, completed in 2021, and the new infrastructure dedicated to research, testing and training.
According to the cited source, works for this stage began in 2020, amounted to RON 6.3 million and were carried out by the association of Total NSA AG Construct and Pro Hart Group.
"The investment aims to quickly become a reference in the field, enhancing the professional performance and skills of specialists in the energy field. The new facility provides the necessary conditions for practical training in a controlled, voltage-free environment where real operating situations can be simulated. The infrastructure was designed for the periodic training of Transelectrica's technical staff as well as other specialists from Romania and abroad. The design and use of these facilities are intended to improve operational safety, extend equipment lifespan, and reduce downtime - essential objectives for the national electricity transmission network, integrated into the Company's modernization and asset development strategy. At the same time, one of the Center's main objectives, alongside professional training, is to provide specialized consultancy in the field of Live Voltage Work," the release states.
The new Center supports Transelectrica's ongoing activities of professional training, promotion and implementation of new technologies in the network, development of technical standards, reports, and work methodologies. Also, within this professional development facility, operators from the Electricity Transmission Network and their trainers are periodically trained in order to keep pace with the new technologies introduced in SEN installations.
"The material base of the 'Stelian Alexandru Gal' Center of Excellence in Sibiu includes training ranges for overhead power lines of different voltage levels, substation and transformer ranges, as well as the building intended for training, equipped with workshops and laboratories for multispectral inspections and pilot project testing. This infrastructure allows the replication of real operating situations and the development of the necessary skills for safe and efficient interventions. Ensuring the maintenance of the Electricity Transmission Network and adopting the most efficient techniques for its implementation is a strategic concern of CNTEE Transelectrica SA. Current requirements regarding the quality and continuity of electricity supply, economic implications and European obligations require the use of new technologies with increased efficiency for transmission and distribution activities in the energy sector. Thus, the Company focuses on consolidating Live Voltage Working (LST) capabilities, using the facilities of the LST and Lines Excellence Center in Sibiu, and the rapid intervention teams in the National Power System," Transelectrica said.
The first stage of the project, completed in 2021, involved the LST Polygon, an investment of RON 5.7 million from Transelectrica's own funds, which provides facilities for practicing work in substations and on overhead lines. By continuing and completing this approach, the center inaugurated today consolidates its role as a core of competence in the LST field.
