TransportMin Grindeanu announces investments of 1.5 billion euros in Constanta Port's infrastructure

The minister of transport and infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, announced on Wednesday investments of 1.5 billion euros in the Constanta Port and in the railway infrastructure near this objective, after he participated, together with prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, in the inauguration of an investment and the start of work on a new objective in the area, totaling 115 million euros.

According to minister Grindeanu, out of the total of 1.5 billion euros, the sum of 500 million euros will be allocated for investments inside the Constanta Port in order to modernise the internal roads, to increase the capacity to transport goods, in order to dredge some areas to allow the access of some ships to the water, sewage and electricity infrastructure.

The minister of transport recalled that the institution he leads absorbed 100% of the European funds allocated for the development of transport in Romania in the previous European exercise until April of last year and mentioned that works are now underway on 780 kilometers of express roads and highways, based on the funds accessed both in the previous programming period and in the current one.

"We are among the few ministries that entered the new transport operational program and this time I anticipate that, if the pace of the last years is maintained, the European transport funds will run out very quickly," Grindeanu said.

The minister of transport participated on Wednesday, in Constanta, together with prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, in the event "DP WORLD-20 years of efficiency and innovation in Romania" and in the operationalising of the new port infrastructure investment within the Constanta Maritime Port Administration National Company.
