The exhibition titled 'Queen Marie's Wings' - a tribute event that highlights the sovereign's connection with aviation and the history of Dobrogea - will open on Wednesday at the 'Jean Constantin' Multipurpose Center in Constanta, and will be on display until November 11, the organizers announced.

Marking the 150th anniversary of Queen Marie's birth, the exhibition is a tribute to the sovereign who embodied the courage, elegance and modern spirit of Romania. The event brings to the fore Queen Marie's connection with aviation and the history of Dobrogea, the 'Teodor T. Burada' County Cultural Center said in a release.

In 1907, just a few years after her arrival to Romania, Queen Marie became the first woman to fly over Dobrogea in a Drachen observation balloon during the military maneuvers at Hasancea - Valu lui Traian. This symbolic gesture illustrates the queen's openness to technical progress and modernity. Years later, the queen would christen the new seaplane flotilla in Constanta, from where the aircraft departed for Balchik, to her beloved palace.

Through her actions and the public campaigns she initiated - in which medals, badges and even spring lucky charms were sold to raise funds for the purchase of aircraft - Queen Marie supported aviation in Dobrogea, conferring it prestige and transforming it into a part of Romania's modern identity.

"The 'Queen Marie's Wings' project brings together period images, documents and testimonies that evoke these unique moments, along with medals and aviation-themed lucky charms from that time. The public will be able to discover materials dedicated to the Royal Seaplane Corps, documents and photographs about the first flight that took off from Dobrogea, medals and postcards from the Anghel Georgian collection, stamps from the George Grigore collection and never-before-seen photographs from the collection of Commander Gheorghe Borcescu. All these valuable exhibits outline her passion for innovation, but also her deep connection with Dobrogea," the release states.

The Romanian Post Company too marks the jubilee moment by issuing a special postcard dedicated to Queen Marie, which visitors will be able to write and send directly from the exhibition premises, by dropping it in the mailbox located at the exhibition venue.
